Spanish Expressionism Night at Mystic Middle School

The 8th grade Spanish students will host an Expressionism Night on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 7-9 p.m.  Students will be presenting a variety of works which express their personal interests.  They have chosen to work by themselves, with partners, or as a member of a group to showcase a particular talent or interest.  Family, community and school members are invited to attend and enjoy what will be a spectacular event!

  The MMS Star Newspaper is now a student literary publication. We would like student submissions. If you would like to submit something, please save it to the 'MMS Star Student Work' folder in the 'Public' folder on the MMSFileserver.

Mystic Middle School Bulletin for Friday, May 16, 2008

Today is: Friday, May 16, 2008. For grade 5 it is a 4-4 day. For grade 6, it is Week B and a 4-4 day. For grade 7, it is a X-2-2 day. For Grade 8, it is a Six Flags day.

Lunch: Today: Sausage or cheese pizza, vegetable dippers, shapeups or fruit Monday: Hot dog on a bun, potato tots, veggie dippers, fruit

Fall Sports: Signups for SHS fall sports have begun in the clinic. High school sports practices start in mid August. Therefore we would like to have as many students complete their paperwork and be eligible before the end of the school year. The fall sports are cheering, boys and girls cross country, field hockey, football, sailing, and boys and girls soccer. Watch the newspapers for the date of the school sports informational meeting at SHS during the summer. Cross-country signups will also be taking place for MMS students who will be in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade next year. Enjoy the spring sunshine and remember to wear your sunscreen if you are going to be outside for any length of time.

SHS Cheerleading Tryouts: Any 8th grade girl interested in trying out for SHS cheerleading should see Mrs. Kiss for all information. A physical and all paperwork must be turned in to Mrs. Kiss before you may tryout. Mandatory tryouts will be in the SHS gym on: Tuesday - Thursday, June 3-5 from 3:30-7:30 PM and on Friday June 6 from 3:30 until finished. There will be an informational meeting at SHS in room 125 on Tuesday May 20 at 7 PM.

Perfect Attendance: You could win free movie tickets to the Stonington Regal cinema. Everyone with perfect attendance for the 2007-08 school year will be placed in a drawing to win movie tickets. We will draw one boy's and one girl's name from each grade at the end of the year. Prizes provided by Ms. Michelle Kennedy of the Horae Mann Companies.

Summer Basketball League Stonington Human Services is offering a summer basketball league. The leagues are Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30-8:30 and run from June 23-Aug 14 for students in grades 9-12. The fee is $15 for residents. The phone number is 535-5015.

Music: There are NO lessons for band or chorus today.

The next PTO meeting is planned for Tuesday March 11 at 7:00.  Agenda items include:  planning next year’s committees, fundraising ideas, a 5/6 sports night, and school landscaping.   Children are welcome at the meeting. Come and get involved.

1-8-08 Governor M. Jodi Rell welcomed the MMS Jazz Band to the Governor's Mansion before the holidays. The band performed some of their favorites for Mrs. Rell while assembled on a staircase. In this video, she thanks members of the band.

The Ronald McDonald House of Memphis is a home-away-from-home for 51 families.  Each family has a very brave child battling cancer or another catastrophic illness and is receiving treatment at St. Jude’s Hospital. They wish to thank the MMS Community for its generous donation of $1800.00.  Read more here.

If you plan on attending an alternative high school next year (Grasso, Ledyard, Norwich Technical, or The Magnet School), you must submit your application to Mr. Bousquet in the main office by December 20th at the latest.  If you have any questions, please see Mr. Bousquet.

Zumba Classes Greatly Enjoyed; Still Room for More!

Important: Some Changes in Dates

Eighteen students and two teachers have signed up for the Zumba classes. Zumba is an aerobic activity based on Latin dance and it is fun for all ages. The music is energizing and the teacher, Sara Greene, makes the class challenging and exciting.

These classes are offered for all Mystic Middle students and staff.  Anyone interested may attend on the following Wednesday afternoons: November 28, and December 12, January 2 and 16. Please note: Some of these dates are different than the original dates.

Our Parent-Teacher Conference days this year are Nov. 7th & 8th (Wed & Thurs).

The 7th is our half day and conferences will begin @ 12:45 with the last one starting @ 2:45. On the 8th, the conferences will begin @ 6 with the last conference starting @ 7:45.

The conferences are set up in 15-minute increments.

The Fall MMS Bookfair will run from Monday, Oct. 22 - Friday, Oct.26th. Hours of operation will be 8AM - 2:30pm each day. On Wed. Oct. 24th we will hold a Family Night where the Bookfair will also be open from 5 - 8pm. Complimentary pizza and drinks will be provided by the PTO for Family Night.
ANY parent/guardian/grandparent etc. is WELCOME to shop at our Bookfair during the regular school day. Just sign in at the office and come down to the Auxillary Gym. We hope to see you there!!

Cartridges for Kids

It’s FUN, EASY, and FREE. Please help us TURN TRASH INTO CA$H

by bringing in empty inkjet, laser, fax, and copier cartridges, used cell phones, laptops, PDAs (Palm Pilots), and iPods. Help MMS by collecting these items from home, work, family, friends, and neighbors. These items can be dropped off in the collection boxes inside the office in the library. If you have a large amount you can arrange for a drop off at Colleen Bornstein's home  (ccbornstein@sbcglobal.net). If you have any questions and if your company would like to support us by donating these used items, please contact Colleen Bornstein at 535-2293.

Fantastic Friday the 14th!

Friday the 14th Day

On Friday the 14th from 12pm 'til the end of school, there will be the beginning of the year school picnic.  Your children will be participating in a variety of games and events and the PTO will be providing water and Popsicles.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.  If you are interested in volunteering that day please contact the guidance counselor Tom Bousquet.

Friday the 14th Night

That night, The Mystic Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a middle school level event where the Black Dog store will be providing a special tour of the schooner, "Alabama".  The event will take place on Friday, September 14th, from 5-7 p.m. at Mystic River Park.  There will be one tour/talk at 5 p.m. and another tour/talk at 6 p.m.  Please arrive early to the tour so that they may begin on time.  The tours can accommodate between 20 to 50 students and parents are welcome.  If you are interested, please call or email Tom Bousquet.

Attention Parents

The late bus, which leaves MMS @ 4pm daily, will BEGIN on Monday, September 10th. The regular afternoon bus, leaving @ 2:45, will be the ONLY transportation provided during the first week of school.

The late bus will run Mon-Thurs during the year.  There will be no late bus on Friday during the year.

Buttons for the Stonington Public Schools home page and k12now added to this MMS homepage. Yes, you should enroll in k12now. This e-mail/cell phone program was in place at Stonington High during the 05-06 school year and was very successful. It has been expanded to include all 6 schools here in Stonington. It's free and it is a quick way for you to be notified if there is a snow day, early cancellation, a sporting event cancellation, etc. (These buttons will be added to other pages here on the MMS web site and the web pages for the other schools over the next couple days.
